Hi, this is Dr. Carl with today's candid conservative minute...
The National Rifle Association is one of the most powerful lobby groups in Washington. With 3.5 million members, a staff of over 550, and a budget of 120 million, it's also a self-serving bureaucracy. The mission of the NRA is to protect the second amendment right to bear arms, and to promote safe, responsible, and competent use of firearms. Conservative thinkers will find no fault with those agendas, but the NRA's unstated mission might offer pause. With time, one trait becomes job one to all bureaucracies - self-protection. It seems that the Democrat's campaign-finance bill was resisted by the NRA until they received a special exemption. NC Congressman Heath Shuler cited the good faith history and service of the NRA as justification for his amendment - an argument applicable to a house of prostitution as surely as a political lobby. If a bill has to indulge special interests before it's passed, you can bet it's designed to indulge even more after it's passed. It's clear the NRA did not receive exemption from Washington's corruption...
I'm Dr. Carl Mumpower and you've just spent a minute with a candid conservative...
