Hi, this is Dr. Carl with today's candid conservative minute...
Las Cruces, New Mexico, resident Molly Malloy is a university librarian with an interesting job - she spends most mornings browsing Mexican media for clues on the number of drug murders in the border city of Juarez. While sorting through newspaper clippings with headlines like - 'Pregnant woman murdered during soccer match' - she identified 2,600 murders in 2009. Juarez is a city of 1.5 million - their death rate exceeds that of New York, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Houston, Baltimore, and New Orleans combined. Most days, the deaths in Mexico's drug war exceed those in Iraq and Afghanistan. Most of this harm can be traced to one source - the American drug consumer. Mexico has become America's drug abuse store of choice. There's absolutely no moral difference in a heavy carbon footprint contributing to global warming and drug abuse contributing to foreign mayhem. We appreciate Ms. Molloy's attempt to accurately track the murder rate in Juarez. She's illuminating another stop on our drug culture's trail of tears...
